Asbestos found in residential gardens after a neighbouring fire

Concerned neighbours raised the issue after asbestos from a house damaged in a fatal fire was found in neighbouring gardens. A complaint was made to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). The director of operations at Derwentside Homes who had been working on the property, said: “Throughout this project we were aware that asbestos containing material was present and we had engaged specialist consultants and contractors who informed the HSE appropriately. Material was contained and cleared from the property as quickly as possible given the constraints of working in a severely fire damaged property”
