Asbestos survey would have identified asbestos roof panels
A roofing company using pressurised water washers to clean roof panels on industrial units has caused the release of asbestos fibres.
A Hampshire based company was contracted to carry out maintenance on various industrial units in Market Harborough from December 2008. The problem came to light when asbestos was discovered outside the units by a Leicestershire County Council health and safety consultant in January 2009. The Health and Safety Executive, which brought the prosecution, told Leicester Magistrates’ Court that the company used pressure washers to clean asbestos cement roofing panels, which blasted the harmful material into the environment.
An asbestos survey would have identified the panels as ACM (asbestos containing material)
